Neumann KM-A Analog Preamplifier for KK Capsule
The Neumann KM A is the analog output stage of the KM A/D modular system. It forms the body of the microphone, containing the electronics and XLR connector, onto which the passive capsules of the KK series are mounted: changing the capsule changes the polar pattern and sonic character, while keeping the same output stage.
Eight capsules can be used: KK 120 (figure-8), KK 131 (free-field equalized omnidirectional), KK 133 (omnidirectional with titanium diaphragm), KK 183 (diffuse-field equalized omnidirectional), KK 143 (wide cardioid), KK 145 (cardioid with acoustic low-frequency roll-off), KK 184 (cardioid), and KK 185 (hypercardioid). A single base thus makes it possible to cover ambient recordings, solo instruments, orchestral sections, and stereo configurations.
The transformerless electronics ensure low noise, an extended dynamic range, and excellent immunity to electromagnetic interference. The KM A nx requires P48 phantom power and features a switchable 10 dB pad; depending on the capsule used, the system can handle up to 152 dB SPL. The capsule and output stage can be separated using dedicated cables, extension tubes, and swivel mounts for extremely discreet positioning. The matte Nextel black nx finish renders the microphone nearly invisible in concert, theater, and television productions, and pairs seamlessly with the KK series capsules in the same nx finish.
