Neumann KK 183 Omnidirectional Microphone Capsule
The Neumann KK 183 is an omnidirectional microphone capsule, part of the KM A/D small-diaphragm modular system. The matte black surface reduces light reflections and makes the capsule nearly invisible on stage, on television, or during video shoots, where the visual impact of microphones is an important consideration.
Like the nickel version, the KK 183 nx is a diffuse-field equalized pressure transducer, featuring a free-field treble boost of approximately 7 dB at 10 kHz. This characteristic compensates for the loss of high-end clarity typical of distant recordings, delivering an open and detailed sound on orchestras, choirs, pianos, and ambient acoustics. It is also an excellent choice for AB spaced stereo configurations. The KM A/D system allows the capsule to be combined with either the KM A analog output stage or the KM D digital output stage, and physically separated from the electronics by up to 100 meters using dedicated extension tubes and cables.
The passive capsules are extremely compact, measuring 22 mm in diameter, 18 mm in length, and weighing just 11 grams, while retaining the proven acoustic design of previous Neumann series. Specifications are top-tier: a sensitivity of 12 mV/Pa, a self-noise level of 13 dB-A, and a maximum sound pressure level of 140 dB SPL, extendable to 150 dB with preattenuation. It is a versatile and discreet capsule for those recording live acoustic music or working in broadcast environments.
