Neumann KK 131 Omnidirectional Microphone Capsule Free Field
The Neumann KK 131 is an omnidirectional capsule, part of the KM A/D modular system. The matte black finish minimizes visual impact and reflections, making it suitable for stage use, TV sets, and installations where the microphone needs to blend into the environment.
It is a free-field equalized pressure transducer: for direct sound, the response remains flat up to 20 kHz, while in the reverberant field, the high frequencies gradually roll off above 5 kHz. It is therefore the preferred omnidirectional capsule when the microphone is placed close to the source—for instance, on acoustic instruments, spoken and sung vocals, ensembles recorded from a short distance, or measurement applications—whereas Neumann offers the KK 183 for distant room recording.
Pressure operation ensures deep lows, no proximity effect, and excellent resistance to wind and handling noise. The capsule connects to either the KM A analog or KM D digital output stage and can be separated from the electronics by up to 100 meters using system extension cables and accessories. A sensitivity of 12 mV/Pa, a self-noise level of 13 dB-A, and a maximum SPL handling of 140 dB (extendable to 150 dB with preattenuation) complete the profile of a precise, neutral, and discreet capsule designed for acoustic recording professionals.
