Neumann KK 145 Low Cut Cardioid Microphone Capsule
The Neumann KK 145 is a cardioid microphone capsule belonging to the KM A/D modular system. The matte finish makes the microphone low-profile and glare-free, a feature that makes it particularly suitable for television studios, council chambers, auditoriums, and stages.
The defining feature of this capsule is an acoustic low-frequency roll-off in the free field, built directly into the design of the transducer. Low-frequency interference—such as wind noise, structure-borne noise, and vibrations from tables or stands—is thus reduced right at the source. At the optimal recording distance of approximately 15 cm, the proximity effect balances out this roll-off, resulting in a linear frequency response and a clear, natural, highly intelligible voice.
It is the ideal capsule for speakers, hosts, presenters, and commentators, but also proves useful for vocals or close-miked instruments in rooms where room boominess is an issue. Compact and lightweight, it mounts onto both the KM A and KM D output stages and can be separated from the electronics using dedicated extension tubes, swivel mounts, and cables up to 100 meters. A sensitivity of 14 mV/Pa, a self-noise level of 14 dB-A, and a maximum sound pressure level of 138 dB SPL (which reaches 148 dB with preattenuation) ensure clean, dynamic recordings in any professional context.
