NEUMANN KM 185 Condenser Microphone, Omnidirectional

The Neumann KM 183 is a small-diaphragm omnidirectional condenser microphone from the 180 Series. Its acoustic and electronic characteristics are identical to the nickel version; however, the black finish makes it even less visible, making it ideal for television broadcasts, live concerts, theater, and video productions where microphones need to stay out of the audience's view.

As a pressure transducer, the KM 183 offers an extended frequency response down to the deepest low end without any proximity effect, while its frequency-independent omnidirectional pattern ensures excellent tonal consistency even off-axis. Equalized for the diffuse field with a free-field treble boost of approximately 7 dB at 10 kHz, it is particularly effective for distant miking in concert halls, churches, and studios with lively acoustics.

The transformerless electronics deliver a low self-noise level of 13 dB-A, a signal-to-noise ratio of 81 dB, and maximum SPL handling of up to 140 dB SPL. The microphone is therefore suitable for delicate sound sources such as choirs, strings, and classical guitar, as well as more powerful applications like room miking for drums or percussion. Included in the box: microphone, WNS 100 windscreen, and SG 21 bk swivel mount.
